The announcement of the expansion in the USA comes a few days after a meeting between Apple CEO Tim Cook and American President Donald Trump. The company is under pressure because of the punitive tariffs imposed by Trump. Because Apple has many of its products manufactured in China, the company is threatened with high import duties and surcharges of up to ten percent.

During Trump's first term in office, Apple was spared from additional taxes thanks to an exemption. At the time, the company had promised investments of 350 billion dollars over a period of five years.

New factories and better cooperation with US companies

With the investments and new jobs announced on Monday, Apple plans to expand its research and development, software development, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning divisions.

Apple also wants to invest in infrastructure and intensify its cooperation with American companies. Together with Foxconn, the most important iPhone contract manufacturer, Apple is planning a new factory in Houston, Texas. The two companies plan to manufacture AI-capable servers there in the future. According to Apple, these servers are currently still being produced outside the USA. Last month, the company announced that it would support the expansion of a chip factory belonging to an Apple supplier from Taiwan in the state of Arizona.
