After two days of losses at the beginning of the week, the DAX was able to gain ground again on Wednesday. It closed trading up 0.5 percent at 23,790.11 points. And Thursday's trading looks set to have a positive start as well. Broker IG is pricing the DAX up 0.2 percent this morning at 23,849 points.

On the futures side, things remain relatively quiet. Redcare Pharmacy and Grenke will release their quarterly results. The annual general meeting of Hamburg Port and Logistics will take place. In the US, the focus this afternoon will be on newly created non-agricultural jobs for June.

The automotive stocks BMW, Daimler Trucks, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and VW are likely to remain in focus. These were among the strongest performers in the DAX on Wednesday. Investors should also continue to keep an eye on Commerzbank and BASF, which also performed strongly. Vonovia, Zalando, and Deutsche Börse were at the bottom of the DAX on Wednesday. Tesla shares are also likely to remain in investors' sights following delivery figures on Wednesday.

Nordex shares could benefit today from further order intake from Great Britain, Belgium and France.

Bitcoin and gold remain at high levels. One Bitcoin costs $109,255 on Thursday morning. A troy ounce of gold is trading at $3,353.

US stock markets largely gained ground on Wednesday. The broad-based S&P 500 gained 0.5 percent to 6,227.42 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 gained 0.7 percent to 22,641.89 points. The leading Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, lost a few points to 44,484.42 points.

The major Asian markets performed mixed on Thursday morning. Japan's Nikkei 225 index lost 0.1 percent. The Hang Seng index of the Chinese special administrative region of Hong Kong fell 0.9 percent. The CSI 300, which tracks the most important mainland Chinese stocks, traded 0.5 percent higher.
