Klüssendorf wants to completely reorient the SPD

Berlin – The designated SPD Secretary General Tim Klüssendorf wants to achieve a comprehensive realignment of the party. "We now also have to get to grips with our programmatic foundation," Klüssendorf told the news magazine Politico. In recent years, SPD politicians have been discussing "the last bullet point." The party has lost "the big picture." It wasn't clear: "Where does this SPD actually want to go?" The SPD must resolve its contradictions "in a positive narrative for the future." Klüssendorf expects some controversy at the party conference. "The debate will certainly be very, very critical, because the election results simply allow it," he said. However, he sees no reason for a general reckoning with Lars Klingbeil. "Lars Klingbeil is the only one of us who has borne this responsibility in the past. Of course, his focus is different; that's the nature of things." On the other hand, Klingbeil has contributed significantly in recent weeks to the SPD's strong start in government. "I think the SPD now has a convincing personnel offer for the future," Klüssendorf continued. Regarding his own result in the election for general secretary, he remains reserved. "Even if they were to manipulate me with a truth serum, they probably wouldn't come up with a very specific number," the SPD politician added. "I also know that I have a lot to work for."
