Northvolt near Heide: Can this battery factory still be saved?

Northvolt is actually planning to build a battery factory in northern Germany. But doubts are growing as to whether this will actually work. It's about 600 million euros of taxpayers' money, the future of e-mobility - and politicians who have put everything on the line.

They would have been so happy about this factory. With everything it would have brought with it: jobs, economic growth and, of course, recognition for this relatively unknown region. But instead of being happy, the elderly couple are standing here in Heide on this grey February day, holding hands and talking about "this factory" in the past tense.
