Russia: Daimler Truck on sanctions list – trade prohibited

Moscow. The Russian government has placed the German commercial vehicle manufacturer Daimler Truck on a sanctions list. The corresponding government decree dates back to Friday but was only published on Monday. Following the start of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, the West imposed sanctions against Moscow. In response, the Kremlin has also drawn up its own sanctions list of Western companies.

Any trading with these companies is prohibited. Payment obligations to such corporations are void. The specific consequences of the decision for the company were initially unclear. Daimler Truck did not initially comment on the matter on Monday evening.

Russia has not officially given a reason for including Daimler Truck on the sanctions list. However, the government newspaper Rossiskaya Gazeta reports that the company has supplied trucks to the Ukrainian armed forces.

Daimler Truck ceased operations in Russia after the outbreak of the war. However, the company was unable to sell its 15 percent stake in the Russian truck manufacturer Kamaz, which also builds military vehicles, until 2024. The sale price is unknown.
