A total of four people were said to have been on board the Navy patrol aircraft.

A naval patrol aircraft with four people on board crashed in South Korea. The accident occurred this afternoon (local time) on a wooded mountainside on the outskirts of the southern city of Pohang, South Korea's official Yonhap News Agency reported. According to the navy, the exact cause of the crash is not yet known. There is also no information yet on the number of injured and possible fatalities.

The aircraft had departed from an air base in Pohang on a training mission shortly before the crash. Witnesses reported seeing huge plumes of smoke near the scene.
