Police violence | Police officer shoots 18-year-old in Stuttgart
A police officer shot and killed an 18-year-old in Stuttgart-Ost on Tuesday night. The operation was preceded by a violent altercation in a restaurant, according to a statement from the police and public prosecutor's office.
According to current investigations, the 18-year-old severely injured a 29-year-old man in the neck with a sharp object and then fled. Shortly thereafter, the suspect was apprehended by a police officer in a backyard near the crime scene. "Subsequently," according to the statement, the officer fired a shot, striking the man in the upper body. Details are now being investigated by the Baden-Württemberg State Office of Criminal Investigation.
Despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the victim, who was originally from Algeria, died at the scene. The 29-year-old, who was apparently seriously injured in the altercation, was taken to a hospital.
According to the Civil Rights & Police Association, this police fatality is the 15th German case in 2025 – four of them in Baden-Württemberg. If this sad trend continues, the record number of 22 fatalities from police shootings from last year could even be surpassed. Many of the victims were in a state of psychological distress.
