The Bundeswehr Procurement Office (BAAINBw) says it has only three years left to prepare the German army for a possible attack on NATO territory, which, according to internal Bundeswehr analyses, Russia would be capable of from 2029 onwards.

"By 2028, everything necessary for full defense readiness must be procured," said the president of the agency, Annette Lehnigk-Emden, to the "Tagesspiegel" (Saturday edition). "The soldiers still have to practice with the new equipment." "The Inspector General has drawn up a priority list of what is additionally needed. We didn't wait until the new government was formed, but rather prepared as many of the necessary purchases as possible," said Lehnigk-Emden. "We will submit around 100 procurement proposals to the Bundestag by the end of the year." The priority is "more large-scale equipment," such as "more Skyranger anti-aircraft tanks" or the "successor model to the Fuchs armored personnel carrier."
