US President Donald Trump postpones deadline for tariffs – perhaps again soon

He expressed his openness to the prospect of his trading partners submitting a proposal. In letters sent to several countries in which Trump announced tariffs of varying levels, he stated that the import surcharges were "final" but expressed his willingness to negotiate. "If they call with a different offer and I like it, then we'll do it."
On Monday, Trump postponed the deadline for new tariffs from this Wednesday (July 9) to August 1 and published more than a dozen letters to several countries, including Japan , South Korea, and South Africa. In the letters, he announced varying levels of import surcharges starting in August.
