With 150 international matches, Lothar Matthäus is Germany’s record international football player.

Lothar Matthäus believes Joshua Kimmich can break the German international appearance record he set. "I said years ago: If anyone can catch me, it's Joshua. And I'm sticking to that. He's still young, rarely injured, and very ambitious. If he keeps going like this, he can reach 170 international appearances," the 150-time national player told Bild.
The 30-year-old Kimmich is set to make his 100th international appearance in the Nations League semifinal against Portugal this Wednesday (9:00 p.m./ZDF and DAZN) in Munich. "I would be happy for him if he ever breaks my record of 150 appearances," former DFB captain Matthäus wrote about the current captain in a Sky column.
Matthäus prefers Kimmich to play in midfieldThe 64-year-old 1990 World Cup winner prefers to see his successor in the center of the pitch. "Kimmich is world-class as a right-back and in midfield. I think he's most important in the center, where he sets the rhythm of the game. As a right-back, he's not as involved in the build-up," said Matthäus.
However, he also said: "Julian Nagelsmann doesn't have any other player who meets his requirements for the right-back position. I don't see any other solution there that convinces me."
