Statistics show: This is what the average German looks like

Wiesbaden. Let's assume that one person alone represents all of Germany's approximately 83 million inhabitants: What does this average person look like? The Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden has analyzed population data and now published a special page with this information.
At the end of 2024, the average German consumer was 44.9 years old, according to statisticians. However, gender differences emerge: The average woman, at 46.2 years, is a good two and a half years older than the average man (43.5 years). This is therefore related to women's higher life expectancy.
Across genders, the average person in Germany is 1.73 meters tall and weighs 77.7 kilograms. The average woman is 1.66 meters tall and weighs 69.2 kilograms. The average man is 1.79 meters tall and weighs 85.8 kilograms.

If you consider all household types, from single-person households to extended families living under one roof, the average German person lives with one other person in a household. A woman gives birth to an average of 1.6 children in her lifetime. According to statisticians, the average family has 3.4 members.
The results of the 2022 census of buildings and housing show how the average person lives. The average apartment has a living space of 94.4 square meters and costs 7.28 euros net rent per square meter.
If they work full-time, the average person in this country works 40.2 hours per week. If the average woman works full-time, she works 39.2 hours per week. That's one and a half hours per week less than the average man, who works 40.7 hours per week.
The situation is somewhat different for part-time workers: Here, the average weekly hours are 21.8. According to the Federal Office, the average part-time woman works almost two hours more (22.2) than the average man (20.5). These figures refer to all employed persons aged 15 to 64.
In April 2024, the average German citizen earned €4,634 gross (excluding bonuses) in full-time employment. At €4,214 gross per month, full-time women earned significantly less than full-time men, at €4,830.
Statisticians also trace the different phases in the life of the average person. For example, they move out of their parents' home at 23.9 years of age. The average woman leaves home at 23.1 years, about one and a half years earlier than the average man, who leaves at 24.6 years.
The average woman becomes a mother for the first time at the age of 30.4.
The average man becomes a father for the first time at 33.3 years of age. The average woman marries for the first time at 32.9 years of age.
The average man is 35.3 years old when he marries for the first time.
The average person retires at 64.7 years. According to the German Pension Insurance, the average pension period is then 21.7 years. Women receive a pension for an average of 23.2 years, about three years longer than men, who receive a pension for 20.1 years. All averages refer to the year 2024.
