“Living is urgent”: Pau Donés will be honored at Vive Latino

Pau Donés said that “living is urgent,” recalls his brother Marc, before talking about the tribute that Jarabe de Palo will pay to its deceased leader during Vive Latino.
The tribute show has already been tested during a 30-concert tour in Spain and bringing it to Mexico City was a pending issue considering that “it was always his second home,” recalled Marc, Pau Donés’ brother, via Zoom.
He said in the documentary that Jordi Évole made about him ( Eso que tú me das ) that he was never against tributes, he just wanted them to be done really well,” he recalled with a laugh, “so, basically it’s a show with the best hits from Jarabe de Palo, adding percussion and visual and auditory elements so that he is present. In some way, the show is prepared so that he, the musicians and the audience interact,” he explained.
Naturally, many people are wondering who will be the singers who will give voice to La flaca, Agua, Bonito and more songs? Well, Marc was asked about the subject three times and he didn't give any details, the same as Alex Tenas, the original drummer of the band that originated in Barcelona exactly 30 years ago.
Pau Donés' brother explained that before starting the original tribute in his country they put together a casting of voices, but always taking into account that male voices had to predominate because of the way Pau conceived his work. Thus Arturo Moreno and Ernest Armengol arrived, but also Marías Pascual as a female voice.
They are the ones who will be in charge of the vocals. Any Mexican friends of Pau? There hasn't been any mention of them yet.
Considering the three decades since the origin of the alienation, the heirs and accomplices of Pau's legacy were also questioned if there is unpublished material that they can rescue with the help of artificial intelligence to celebrate the anniversary and they were very blunt with the refusal, but: "Yes, there is a lot of material that he left and demos that did not appear on some albums, some songs made it into later albums, but it is true that many were left in the trunk. We may publish them later, but more for an emotional reason (than an economic one)," Marc explained.
During the conversation he said that the performance they will have at Vive Latino on March 15 will be much shorter than the one held in Spain, but it will still be special, because the festival “was the cathedral for Pau,” his brother recalled.
He also added that one of his favorite albums, which they also review in the tribute, is Tragas o escupes (2020), with some songs on the setlist.
Will there be another full-length show in Mexico City? He doesn't know, but he shared that several Mexicans made the trip to several of the dates in Spain to witness the format of the show and were quite moved.
According to Marc, the time they will play will be between 9 and 11 pm. The venue is yet to be determined.
