An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck Turkey 's western province of Balikesir , leaving at least four people injured , Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu said on social media Sunday, August 10.
According to information from Europa Press , the earthquake occurred at 7:53 p.m. (local time), with a depth of approximately 11 kilometers , and was felt even in Istanbul , although slightly.

Since then, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Agency ( AFAD ) has reported more than ten aftershocks , all of lower intensity but greater than magnitude 3 .
Minister Memisoglu stated on his X social media account (formerly Twitter) that the injured are being treated in hospitals and that none are in danger of dying. “Their treatment continues, and we are closely monitoring the situation with all relevant institutions,” he added.
For his part, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that two people were rescued after a building collapsed in Sindirgi, a town in Balıkesir. Search and rescue efforts continue, and the gendarmerie is conducting inspections in nearby towns.
"We will continue to provide updates on any developments," Yerlikaya said, while emergency teams continue their work in the affected area to ensure the safety of the population.
Although no fatalities have been reported, Turkish authorities remain on alert for possible aftershocks and structural damage resulting from the powerful earthquake that struck the region.
