All the intimacy. Mirtha's birthday party: the looks, the details and the secrets of a legendary night

“What an incredible birthday I celebrated last night with those I love the most! Thank you to everyone who accompanied me and greeted me on this special day, I had a great time! There are no words to describe how grateful and happy I feel for so much love, laughter and unforgettable moments. Thank you for being part of my life and for making each year even more special. We will celebrate again next year!” With these words, Mirtha Legrand shared with her thousands of followers her immense joy after celebrating her 98th birthday last Sunday with a magical garden party at her daughter, Marcela Tinayre, in Barrio Parque.
Owner of an overwhelming energy, the previous week she had been in Mar del Plata recording her roundtables for El Trece and it is likely that in that city that she loves so much she began to palpitate and dream about how much she would enjoy her big day. On Sunday, Mirtha rested as much as she could in her apartment on Libertador Avenue and until she finished changing she dedicated herself to answering the thousands of phone calls she received, watched the videos with greetings prepared for her by great figures of sport and entertainment, such as Lionel Messi , Ricardo Darín , Adrián Suar , Guillermo Francella , Guido Kaczka or the Pimpinela , and received many bouquets of flowers. Although it was not revealed what other gifts they gave her, she herself took care to tell that from Racing, the club of her loves, they sent her the new shirt signed by Diego Milito , crack and current president of the club. Of course, he did not hesitate to pose with her and thank her through his social networks. At 8:15 p.m. she left her apartment accompanied by Héctor Vidal Rivas , her long-time image consultant; Gladys Andrade , who did her makeup; Leo Cosenza , who did her hair; and her assistant Elvira Guaraz . Smiling and taking her time, before getting into the car she posed splendidly for ¡HOLA! Argentina in her dress entirely embroidered with silver crystals by Claudio Cosano , which she accompanied with some pieces from her personal jewelry box.
The arrival at Marcela's place was somewhat chaotic. The gate to enter with the car got stuck and Chiquita walked in through a side door in the middle of a large number of photographers and fans. Despite the commotion, she made time to look at the signs with which her admirers greeted her and which said, for example, "the legend continues."
With the help of the decorator Ramiro Arzuaga , Marcela's garden was illuminated with a shower of warm lights that added magic to the garden party, something that the birthday girl loved and later highlighted in her speech. There were ten tables for the sixty guests, all with white tablecloths and individual ones with botanical prints, and on them there were black nightstands with LED lights and arrangements with fresh white roses and lisianthus. The names of each diner were written on cards decorated with posters of the films starring the diva and some covers of emblematic magazines. And, anticipating the heat, each one had a fan with a photo of the birthday girl and the phrase: "Because I am already a legend."
Among the guests were Schuster’s beloved grandchildren Juana and Nacho Viale (accompanied by their respective partners, Yago Lange and Lucía Pedraza) and Rocco Gastaldi. Also present were his great-grandchildren Ámbar de Benedictis and Silvestre and Alí Valenzuela , his ex-son-in-law Ignacio Viale Del Carril , and dear friends such as Gino Bogani , Martín Cabrales and Dora Sánchez (who were at the head table), Coca Calabró , María Teresa Villarroel , Susana Reta , Claudia Álvarez Argüelles and Pablo Codevilla . Everyone enjoyed the three-course menu prepared by Schuster: burrata with Parma prosciutto, candied tomato and arugula; salmon and mascarpone agnolotti with lime and caper cream; and apple crumble with cream ice cream. Between courses, singer Coki Ramírez provided the music for the evening with some of Chiquita's favorite songs, who enthusiastically sang along to “Morir de amor,” “Uno,” and “Marinero de luces,” among others.
Before it was twelve o'clock, Mirtha quietly got up and went to change, just as she had planned. Minutes later, with the musical curtain of her programme as a backdrop and amid standing applause, she reappeared in a pink dress made of embroidered natural silk crepe and chantilly lace, by Iara. She was ready for the toast and to blow out the candles. Her great-grandchildren, with Ámbar, who is the eldest, at the head, brought her the rectangular XL rogel (decorated with flowers) prepared by Violeta Massey.
After thanking them, the birthday girl took the microphone and said: “I was going to have this meeting at my house, but since there are so many of us, the living room was going to be very crowded. So, very kindly, Marcela gave me her house.” Then, she continued: “I am celebrating an enormous milestone. I have been and am a very happy woman. I have had a wonderful life and I discovered my vocation when I was very young, at 14 years old, when I made my first film, Los martes, orquídeas. I continued working all my life, I have always done very well, I have been loved and respected, I love my country, I always defend it to the death, and if we want to stay afloat we Argentines have to unite more.” Towards the end, she said: “Let us enjoy the life we have left, I have very little left. Believe it or not, in two years, if I am still in this world, I will be a centenarian.” Amidst the applause, Chiqui pretended to leave, indicating that it was time to go to rest. But Marcela and all her loved ones' requests quickly changed her mind and she stayed up enjoying herself until after 1 in the morning. It was a legendary night.
