Amazon's Alexa will have a new version supported by AI

Amazon announced on Wednesday a new version of its Alexa voice assistant, which will be enhanced with generative artificial intelligence (AI) that will make it more human-like.
Amazon has been under pressure to update its 10-year-old assistant for the AI era, with customers increasingly frustrated with the device for its rambling conversations and difficulty doing anything beyond playing music, giving a weather forecast or turning on a light.

Apple's Siri has also struggled to make interactions more intuitive and promises to improve its performance with the use of artificial intelligence.
"If I had to share one thing with this excited audience, I would say this: I'm not just an assistant. I'm your new BFF in the digital world," Alexa Plus told the audience at the launch event in New York.
In a video shown during the ceremony, Alexa Plus performs new activities, such as booking concert tickets or texting a babysitter.
Amazon Vice President of Devices and Services Panos Panay presented this new version as the beginning of a new era for voice devices.

"Until now... we've been limited by technology," Panay, a former Microsoft executive, said at the launch.
Alexa is used on more than 600 million devices.
According to Amazon, AI-powered Alexa can also book a ride and send it to your calendar, as well as remember your favorite food, movies and music.
