Arturo Zaldívar clarifies what illness he suffered from: 'Making fun of a health problem is a meanness'

“To mock, ridicule and enjoy a health problem seems to me to be a terrible baseness,” lamented Arturo Zaldívar, coordinator of Politics for Claudia Sheinbaum’s government , regarding the rumors that were spread about her health condition.
The former president of the Supreme Court, now chaired by Norma Piña , clarified in an interview that he suffered from influenza , a respiratory illness that prevented him from going to work for a few days, but currently, he stressed, "I am very well."
" I had a respiratory problem , influenza, a few weeks ago. I have now fully recovered. I am working very hard, with the same enthusiasm, with the joy of having the opportunity to serve the president and my country," he detailed on Tuesday, February 25, for the Ciro Gómez Leyva newscast.
However, Zaldívar explained that his political adversaries, with “impressive moral baseness,” invented illnesses or even claimed that he was one step away from death.
"There are people who are happy when others are sick and there are many who would be very happy if those rumors about my health were true, fortunately that is not the case, we are fully recovered and working at 100 percent," he added.
The retired minister also stressed that he does not suffer from multiple sclerosis or amyotrophic sclerosis, as had been initially reported: “My father had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which is not multiple sclerosis, it is an even more cruel disease than multiple sclerosis, I do not have either of these two diseases .”
For this reason, Arturo Zaldívar reiterated that the comments are simply “rumors spread in a painful way,” which caused his family and friends to worry even more about his health.
"It did cause concern and anguish, even among my family and friends, because there are unscrupulous people who, for political reasons, do not care about getting to where they want to go. I repeat, fortunately I am in very good health, fully recovered and working very hard," he said.
Arturo Zaldívar was former president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN). He is a lawyer who graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho, in addition to being a doctor in Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
For 25 years he was a practicing lawyer in constitutional matters and combined his activity with academic life. He was also a professor at the Escuela Libre de Derecho at the postgraduate level, where he taught subjects related to constitutional law and constitutional procedural law.
