Donald Trump suffers from chronic venous insufficiency: what is it and how does it affect him?

The President of the United States, Donald Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency after experiencing leg swelling, the White House reported Thursday following a recent medical evaluation.

According to press secretary Karoline Leavitt , the diagnosis was issued by the presidential physician, who determined that it is a chronic but benign venous condition common among older adults.

His medical team confirmed that he suffers from this disease, which is common in people his age, and that it poses no major risks.

Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when the veins in the legs do not allow adequate blood flow back to the heart, which can cause inflammation , discomfort, and the appearance of varicose veins.

“ The condition is benign and common, and does not pose a threat to President Trump’s overall health,” Leavitt said in an official statement.

Regarding the recent images showing bruises on Trump 's hand , the spokeswoman explained that they are consistent with mild soft tissue irritation attributed to frequent handshakes and the use of aspirin, which is part of his standard preventative treatment for cardiovascular health.

The medical team confirmed that President Trump, 79, is stable and without major complications and will continue his public schedule as normal.
