Get your scholarships: Cuauhtémoc mayor wants to auction off statues of Che and Fidel

Ocurrente Delegation.- Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, mayor of the Cuauhtémoc delegation, announced that she will auction off the statues of "El Che" Guevara and Fidel Castro, which were removed a few days ago from the Plaza de la Tabacalera.
The measure caused a stir on social media and even in the Cuban community living in Mexico, who spoke out against the decision to remove the effigies of both historical figures from the plaza where they had been placed in 2017 to commemorate the meeting between the two leaders in 1955, in the heart of the Tabacalera neighborhood.

The sculptures remained there for several years, until the current mayor ordered their removal, arguing that it was "a feeling of the citizens" and that, furthermore, "they did not have the corresponding permits," which made them, technically, pirate sculptures.
“ I bring you a unique and unrepeatable opportunity: why don't we officially auction off the sculptures of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara? Let's see if the law allows us to have this revolutionary auction. Let everyone carry their idols, but without the neighbors paying for it,” Rojo de la Vega wrote on his X account, confirming that in Mexican politics you never know if you're reading a proposal or a TikTok dynamic.
Neither Che nor Fidel requested permission to settle in Cuba… and neither did they ask for permission to settle in the Tobacco Factory.

After launching the "idea," Rojo herself stated that the money raised would be used to fix public spaces, and in passing made reference to that memorable episode of the presidential plane without a plane.
"How could I possibly think of auctioning off the statues of Fidel and Che Guevara? My lord, the former president of Mexico raffled off an airplane... and without a plane!" the PAN member concluded, making it clear that her thing is political performance and, perhaps, a way to warm up for what's to come.
And because the joke is delicious: we now know whether the guy from the Coldplay concert apologized to his wife or not.How could I possibly think of auctioning off the statues of Fidel and Che?
