If there is a crime, we will go to the bottom: Prosecutor's Office assures support for 'Papayita's' family

Following the social upheaval caused by the death of Carlos Gurrola Arguijo, a Laguna worker known as "Papayita," the State Attorney General's Office reaffirmed its commitment to clarifying the events with transparency, supporting the family, and applying the law to its fullest extent.

Attorney General Federico Fernández Montañez reported that an investigation file was opened from the outset and key evidence has been collected, including video recordings from the days leading up to and on the day of the events. These materials have already been shared with immediate family members and their legal advisors, who participated in a meeting with ministerial authorities to learn about the progress.

"We are being completely open and transparent. The least we can do in the face of a tragedy like this is to show the family and the public that we are working seriously, responsibly, and closely. The prosecutor's office will maintain its liaison role and continue with every necessary procedure," Fernández Montañez said.

The prosecutor emphasized that, although there is no evidence of a criminal offense so far, the investigation is ongoing and he is fully committed to clarifying all the circumstances surrounding the case.

For his part, the delegate of the Laguna I Regional Prosecutor's Office, Carlos Rangel, led a meeting with the family's legal representatives on Monday, which lasted nearly nine hours. At the end of the meeting, he offered his institutional condolences to the bereaved and stated: "If a crime has been committed, we will pursue it to the fullest extent of the law."

Rangel stated that all available information, including security videos, was requested from the company, and that the testimonies already collected are consistent with what was observed in the recordings. Although no evidence of malicious intent has been found, the case remains open under the homicide charge, as required by law for all unnatural deaths.

Regarding the versions spread on social networks about alleged abuse and harassment at work, the delegate stressed that they do not fully coincide with the ministerial evidence, Although he acknowledged that these lines are also part of the ongoing investigation He added that sensitive details in the file are being shared only with the family's legal advisors to avoid misrepresentation of the facts.

The attorneys representing the deceased confirmed that they are still analyzing the evidence and announced that they will request further proceedings to strengthen the investigation.

"We will continue to collaborate with the Prosecutor's Office and keep all lines of inquiry open until we find the truth," they stated.

Amid the pain and social demand for justice, "Papayita"'s family hopes that the authorities' actions will translate into concrete responses and a precedent that will help ensure more dignified and humane work environments.
