Lotenal won the lottery with Olivia Salomón

The appointment of Olivia Salomón Vibaldo from Puebla as the new general director of the National Lottery for Public Assistance (Lotenal), replacing the inconsequential Marco Antonio Mena Rodríguez, who barely lasted a little over a year and a half in that position after having been governor in Tlaxcala (2017-2021), is, without a doubt, very good news for the institutional framework of this country.
For those who do not know, Lotenal is a decentralized agency of the federal public administration in charge of holding raffles with cash prizes, intended to raise money to financially support the head of the Executive Branch in matters aimed at seeking equality among those Mexicans who cannot satisfy their most urgent needs on their own, which makes it a leading institution and an example at the national and international level.
However, the impact and relevance of this institution has been diluted over the course of recent years, due to the poor management of its most recent general directors. The last time that the general management of Lotenal was in good hands was during the time of María Esther Scherman and that happened more than a decade ago.
Salomón Vibaldo is a woman with abilities and talents. Successful, empowered and with a very modern vision of what public administration should be.
From the outset, she perfectly epitomises the presidential philosophy of “these are times for women”, as she is a businesswoman with a political, human and supportive profile, whose political career has always been characterised by a firm commitment to economic development and social progress.
It operates with a high scale of values and coincides with the vision of shared prosperity promoted by President Sheinbaum. Both in the public and private spheres, it has been characterized as a leader in promotion and innovation, promoting the inclusion of women and the professionalization of small business owners, producers and artisans. It has the expertise and know-how to generate well-being.
What brought Olivia to the general management of Lotenal is on the table and it is something that no one can deny: in 2019 she was appointed Secretary of Economy of Puebla by the late Governor Miguel Barbosa Huerta, which allowed her to be part of the first gender-equal cabinet in the history of this entity.
From this position, he implemented several key public policies, such as the creation of the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business (CIEN) and the State Energy Agency. In addition, he promoted the economic clustering of this state, achieving a 3.2% growth in Puebla's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023 (an increase of 2.3% compared to the 0.9% recorded in 2019).
Olivia Salomón now has an unbeatable opportunity to recapture all the good dynamics that led her to success in her home state and implement them in a national office that urgently requires immediate action to regain credibility and trust.
