Máximo in Parque Lezama: in search of the lost unity

Máximo in Parque Lezama: in search of the lost unity

He was the only speaker at the event in Parque Lezana, in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of San Telmo. However, his mother, Cristina Kirchner, was also present. Since the Supreme Court ruling convicting the former president, Representative Máximo Kirchner has become her spokesperson, her political operator, and perhaps the card CFK wants to play in this year's electoral campaign. Historical circumstances also compelled him.

Yesterday, Máximo hosted the event. He gave a brief speech in which, among other things, he thanked his father, Néstor, and his sister, Florencia, who received applause. He even mentioned having breakfast with Cristina. It was a speech that was more personal than political. It was charged with emotion, but it was always at the center of an event with his mother under house arrest: a symbol of what's to come. And he himself presented the audio recording in the former president's voice.

But not only that: this week he gave media interviews again, focusing his speech on debt and the state of the economy. He also reiterated that Peronist unity was a key condition for confronting Javier Milei's government and its policies.

La Cámpora is still unclear about where Máximo will ultimately play. When the conviction was confirmed, the initial rumor suggested he could replace his mother as the first candidate for provincial deputy for the Third Electoral Section, the southern Buenos Aires metropolitan area.

However, in response to PERFIL's inquiries, La Cámpora remains cautious about this hypothesis. They maintain that he could remain in office and be on the ballot for the provincial national deputy in the legislative elections on October 26.

The provincial candidate list deadline is July 19: in less than a month, Máximo and his Peronist allies should reach an agreement to determine whether he could effectively replace his mother.

However, Máximo was always the person CFK herself sent to the negotiating table with Axel Kicillof and Sergio Massa, a gesture the Buenos Aires governor in particular took with displeasure, but also as a harsh signal, regarding the slim chances of bringing control of the pen to determine the candidacies into question. Historically, until now, everything was resolved between Cristina and Máximo. Today, the former president doesn't want to be the one to pick the points district by district, name by name. But everything is up for discussion. "The internal conflict ended when Cristina's conviction was confirmed; now we have to look at all the movements to see how we can bring all the parties together in a Peronist front that can win the government both elections, that is, September and October," indicated those close to Cristina.
