Negotiations between Mexico and the United States continue over tariffs

Eight days before the expiration of the pause agreed between Mexico and the United States for the imposition of tariffs , the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that negotiations on trade and security matters continue.
Regarding the statements made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump , that tariffs on Mexican imports are still in place, the head of the Executive asked to listen to his entire statement and not only when he talks about Mexico.

“It is worthwhile to recall all of the statements. He talks about what he calls reciprocity in tariffs. What does that mean? What he is saying is that if a country imposes taxes on its exports or imports, that is, if American products are taxed when they enter Europe, then he says that the United States will impose a tariff in reciprocity,” he said.
"We do not have any tariffs between the United States and Mexico. If we go to the issue of reciprocity, we would remain as we are now," he said.
During her press conference at the National Palace , the federal president mentioned that although the Republican president has insisted on the imposition of tariffs on Mexican goods, he has also admitted that when one country applies tariffs to another, the natural consequence is that there are tariffs in response.
However, he expressed confidence that an agreement would be reached and reiterated that a new call with the United States would be sought.
“We are continuing to hold talks with them on the issue of security and trade. We have to close the agreement, but we have to listen to the entire statement, not cut out the parts where it only talks about Mexico and Canada… We are going to wait until the exercises are closed, waiting for the agreement with the United States. We are waiting for new calls to be able to close the agreement,” he said.
However, he said that if this does not happen, Mexico has a “plan b, c…”.
