More than 25,000 teachers are taking exams starting this Saturday to secure one of the 3,122 places in the competitive examinations to teach in the region's public schools. A total of 25,300 applicants are applying, of which 22,711 are applying to become Secondary Education teachers . Meanwhile, 941 are applying to become specialists in specific vocational training sectors, 481 to become Official Language Schools, 492 to become Music and Performing Arts teachers, 611 to become Fine Arts and Design teachers, and 64 to become Fine Arts and Design Workshop teachers, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education, Science and Universities this Friday.
These exams have been designed for specialties in which there is a greater demand for educational professionals, such as Computer Science, Computer Systems and Applications, Electronic Equipment, Electrical Installations , Healthcare and Care Procedures, Vehicle Maintenance, Spanish Language and Literature, Mathematics , English, and Physical Education, among others.
To conduct the tests, the Ministry of Education, Science and Universities has distributed candidates among 417 panels located in 80 locations across the five regional offices throughout the Community of Madrid (North, South, East, West, and Capital). The Public Employment Offer system consists of three phases: the competitive examination, the competition in which the candidates' merits are assessed, and the internship, which will begin in September. The purpose of the internship is to verify and enhance the teaching skills of those selected through the Comprehensive Teacher Training program.
Candidates whose due dates coincide with or follow their childbirth may postpone their exams. This measure also applies to those unable to attend due to duly justified reasons of force majeure. They will be re-scheduled for the exams after the initial start date.

Furthermore, 7% of the positions are reserved for those with a certified disability. Those who fail the exams will be able to join the lists of candidates for temporary positions. Regarding the exams, which begin this Saturday, the Workers' Commissions (CCOO) union has received several complaints regarding this process. It noted that "unjustified delays in payments to the courts for the 2024 process persist" and questioned the reliability of the computer system for the lottery.
For its part, the CCOO (Spanish Workers' Commissions) has highlighted the "lack of adequate material conditions" and cited the example of the candidates for the Jesús Maestro EOI (Spanish Educational Institute of Madrid), who "have had to write on chairs with shovels." The CSIF union has also joined the protests and expressed concern about air conditioning and infrastructure, as "the lack of investment will complicate acoustic conditions at language exam venues, and the excessive heat will test candidates' physical endurance."
Furthermore, CSIF has focused on "the lack of transparency" in the subject allocation process and the specific evaluation criteria, as well as "the legal uncertainty surrounding the lack of access to exam reviews."
