The heat wave continues in Spain with temperatures up to 43°C, but Aemet warns: there will be storms and these will be the affected areas.

Spain remains in the grip of an intense and stifling heat wave , with temperatures expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius in several regions this Tuesday. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued high temperature warnings for a total of 45 provinces, virtually the entire country. However, in a twist typical of summer weather, Aemet has also warned of the arrival of storms , which could be locally strong and bring a respite, albeit temporary, from the stifling atmosphere.

The mercury is relentless, especially in the south and inland parts of the Iberian Peninsula. Areas such as the Guadalquivir Valley, the Tagus Valley, and Extremadura are shaping up to be the hottest spots this Tuesday, where temperatures in the mid-40s will be a constant. Andalusian cities such as Córdoba, Huelva, Jaén, and Seville are under an orange warning , indicating significant risk.

The same applies to Toledo (Castilla-La Mancha), Badajoz and Cáceres (Extremadura), and the Ribera del Ebro in Navarre and La Rioja. These orange warnings also extend to parts of Aragon (Huesca and Zaragoza), Catalonia (Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona), Cantabria, Galicia (Lugo and Ouren), and the Community of Madrid (South, Vegas, and West), among others.

But the heat isn't the only factor in this meteorological day. The Aemet (Mexico City Meteorological Agency) has focused on the likelihood of storms , which are expected to appear with the development of cloud cover in the interior of the peninsula . Although they may bring temporary relief from the heat, some of this rainfall could be intense .

The areas most susceptible to these storms are the Iberian Peninsula, the Cantabrian Mountains, the Northern Plateau, the Central System, and the Pyrenees . Cities such as Teruel and Huesca in Aragon, Burgos in Castile and León, and the Catalan provinces of Barcelona, Girona, and Lleida are under warning for the risk of storms. Storms are also expected in Cantabria (Central and Villaverde Valley), Lugo in Galicia, the Basque provinces of Álava, Guipúzcoa, and Vizcaya , and the Ribera del Ebro in Navarre and the Iberian Peninsula in La Rioja .

Although maximum temperatures will experience a sharp drop along the Cantabrian and Galician coasts , they will remain significantly high in the rest of the country. Temperatures are expected to exceed 34-36°C in the northeast of the peninsula, the Northern Meseta, and the southern half of the peninsula , with the exception of the Mediterranean coasts and the southeastern mountain ranges.

Regarding minimum temperatures, a slight increase is expected in the Northern Plateau and the Ebro Valley , while there will be little change elsewhere. The AEMET (Spanish Meteorological Agency) predicts that nights will remain tropical in many areas, with temperatures not falling below 20°C in the Ebro, the Mediterranean coasts, and the southern half of the country.

In addition to the combination of heat and storms, Aemet has also issued wind and wave warnings for the Canary Islands , where the trade winds will intensify with very strong gusts in exposed areas of the islands with the highest elevations. Calima is also expected in the west of the archipelago and will gradually recede on the Iberian Peninsula, persisting in the western part.
