Viña del Mar Festival rescheduled due to massive blackout in Chile

A massive power outage in Chile forced the Viña del Mar Festival to suspend its activities on February 25, after the government declared a state of emergency in several cities in the country, including Santiago .
The event organizers announced the rescheduling of the affected shows for Saturday, March 1, 2025. “ We know how much you were waiting for this moment and how important it is for you, so we want to assure you that the confirmed artists and comedian will be present on the new date, keeping the same schedule ,” it was reported in a statement posted on social media.

Among those affected by the suspension was the Colombian band Morat , which generated a wave of criticism from their fans.
“ Class action, many of us lost and will lose money due to poor organization ,” “ And why doesn’t the largest festival in Latin America have an electric generator? ” and “ What a shame for the people who traveled from far away. Nobody will take responsibility for it ,” were some of the comments on social media.
Organizers said tickets for the cancelled date will remain valid for Saturday and those who prefer to return can request a refund starting March 3.
ACTIVITIES ARE PAUSED AND TRAFFIC CHAOS EMERGES DUE TO MASSIVE BLACKOUT
In Santiago , banks , shops and shopping malls were reported closed to the public. There was also growing traffic chaos on the main avenues due to the failure of traffic lights.
Media outlets reported that thousands of people were forced to evacuate the metro , causing a traffic jam. “ They let us leave work because of the power cut, but now I don't know how to get home because all the buses are full ,” one citizen told AFP .

While airlines issued alert messages, predicting flight delays: “ We inform you that due to the interruption of the power supply in a large part of Chile , some of our flights could be affected. We recommend checking the status of your flight .”
