Boyacá miners announce an indefinite strike and complete closure of the Paipa-Tunja dual carriageway starting August 4.

The Boyacá mining union will enter an indefinite shutdown starting this Monday, August 4. The decision, announced by the sector committee, responds to the lack of agreement in discussions with representatives of the National Government on policies affecting mining in the region.
Peaceful marches and demonstrations are scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. in various parts of the department, centered on the Paipa cemetery roundabout, where a complete closure of the Paipa-Tunja BTS dual carriageway is planned. The committee clarified that only ambulances and urgent medical missions will be allowed to pass.
The protest seeks to demand measures that guarantee the stability of mining activity and the protection of jobs in the department, in the face of restrictive policies that, according to spokespersons, threaten the viability of this productive sector.

Last Friday, the Paipa Mayor's Office convened a Safety Council meeting with union representatives to seek alternatives to avoid a strike. However, the talks failed to yield an agreement, and the call for a mobilization remains in place.
A new roundtable discussion is expected on Tuesday, August 5, with the presence of ministers or deputy ministers from various departments, as well as representatives from the National Mining Agency and local authorities, with the aim of unblocking the negotiations.
