David Collado hands over the renovated Plaza Marcelino Marte

This Sunday, Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the reconstruction of Plaza Marcelino Marte (Canito) in Guayacanes , built for an amount exceeding 32 million pesos.

The reconstruction of the square , popularly known as Canito Park , has a total intervention area of 4,028 square meters.

Of that space, the reconstruction of 1,362 square meters of cobblestone road , around the entire perimeter of the park, the 1,146 square meter plaza , in addition to the park.

Minister Collado stated that the project is a long-standing community concern , and has become an attractive recreational area for residents and visitors.

"By rescuing this symbolic park, we are fulfilling our promise and addressing the community's longstanding request," said the Minister of Tourism.

Collado asserted that projects like this have a direct impact on the community and "that is a key reason for the development of tourism."

Details of the reconstruction

The project includes the reconstruction of the basketball court , the construction of new stands, surface renovation, and a sports lighting system to make better use of the area.

This intervention also includes the reconstruction of 580 square meters of sidewalk and 468 linear meters of curbs around the park.

It will also include the construction of urban equipment , landscaping , signage , universal access ramps and lighting to provide the community with a better recreational and sports space.

The project was carried out by the Tourism Zone Infrastructure Executive Committee (CEIZTUR) at a total cost of RD$32,599,344.
