Michelin Guide 2025: Which restaurants earned the coveted stars?

On the evening of Tuesday, June 3, 2025 , the Codere Forum in Mexico City hosted the highly anticipated second edition of the Michelin Star Awards, an event hosted by presenter and gastronomic content creator Miguel Conde , the world's most recognized gastronomic guide. After a historic first edition in 2024, Mexico once again showcased the world's growth and evolution of its culinary scene.
Pujol, by chef Enrique Olvera and Quintonil, by chef Jorge Vallejo and Alejandra Flores, kept their two Michelin stars .
Twenty-one restaurants have earned a Michelin star . This year, Expendio de Maíz in Mexico City; Lunario in El Porvenir, Baja California; Masala y Maíz in Mexico City; and Máximo in Mexico City, by chef Lalo García; all of the restaurants recognized in 2024 have reaffirmed their star.
12 new restaurants have been recognized as Bib Gourmand , the 38 named in 2024 have kept their plaque, adding up to a total of 50 Bib Gourmand , an award that celebrates quality-price in a restaurant.
In this sense, 108 restaurants received the Michelin Guide 2025 Recommendation.
The Michelin Guide , which first arrived in Mexico in May 2024 , awarding stars to 18 restaurants and recognizing 42 others with the Bib Gourmand , this year once again rigorously evaluated the technical quality, originality, and memorable flavors of Mexican cuisine. Expectations were high to find out which establishments would join the select group of award winners, generating great excitement among chefs, restaurateurs, and food lovers.

The Michelin Awards, established in 1926, recognize three levels of gastronomic excellence:
One star: A total of 21 restaurants. All of the restaurants recognized in 2024 reaffirmed their star, but the following were added : Expendio de Maíz in Mexico City; Lunario in El Porvenir, Baja California; Masala y Maíz in Mexico City ; and Máximo in Mexico City, by chef Lalo García . In the previous edition, Pujol and Quintonil earned two stars, becoming absolute benchmarks. This year, the expectation focused on discovering whether any of the restaurants would make the leap to the coveted three stars, further consolidating the country's culinary reputation.

Green Star, commitment to sustainabilityBaldio in Mexico City earned the Green Star , as did Olivea in Ensenada, Baja California, which also earned a Michelin star; and the six restaurants that will earn the Green Star in 2024 have also confirmed it. This special recognition is awarded to restaurants that stand out for their commitment to sustainable gastronomic practices. The Green Star recognizes initiatives that promote environmental protection , responsible use of resources, and collaboration with local producers.
Bib Gourmand Award Winners. Special
Twelve new restaurants have earned Bib Gourmand recognition. Of the 38 named in 2024 , they retained their awards, bringing the total to 50. This award, represented by the Michelin man, recognizes restaurants that offer a memorable dining experience, highlighting their value for money. The Bib Gourmand remains key to promoting Mexican culinary diversity and supporting offerings that combine quality and value.

Special awards: talent and excellenceIn addition to stars and the Bib Gourmand, the Michelin Guide awards special prizes to recognize the work of chefs and restaurants in specific categories such as Best Service and Best Sommelier, recognizing excellence in various aspects that enrich the gastronomic experience.
The first special award of the night was for best young chef , which went to Giuseppe Lacorazza of the Fugaz restaurant in Mexico City.
The second special award was to recognize service in a restaurant, the Michelin Service Award Mexico 2025 was given to Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya, chef Mikel Alonso and Nahum Velasco went up to receive the award.
The Michelin-starred award for Best Sommelier went to Romina Arguelles of Plonk restaurant, while the award for Outstanding Cocktail went to Gabriela Campos of Atarraya bar in Oaxaca.
The Mentor Chef award went to chef Jonatán Gómez Luna , from the Le Chique restaurant in Quintana Roo.
