The number of Mexican exports decreases during May

According to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) , the Total Mexican exports reported an annual decline of 0.3% in May of this year. , following the 5.8% growth observed in April and 9.6% in March.

The value of foreign merchandise sales reached 55.476 billion dollars (mdd) in May , a figure made up of 53.421 billion dollars in non-oil sales and 2.54 billion dollars in oil sales .

This represented a 35.2% annual drop in oil exports and a 1.8% increase in non-oil exports . Among non-oil exports, those to the United States grew 0.9%, and those to the rest of the world grew 6.5%.

On the other hand, the value of merchandise imports during the same period was $54.447 billion , representing an annual increase of 1.4% . This figure was the net result of a 28.9% increase in oil imports and a 0.3% decrease in non-oil imports .

Considering imports by type of good, annual variations of -0.5% were observed in purchases of consumer goods, -15.0% in capital goods, while purchases of intermediate goods increased by 4.0%.

Timely foreign trade information indicates a trade surplus of $1.29 billion in May 2025 , a balance that compares with the deficit of $88 million observed in the same month of 2024.

For the first five months of this year, The trade balance showed a surplus of 2.38 billion dollars In the same period last year, it recorded a deficit of $4.461 billion.
