The SEPE is increasing the unemployment benefits for workers with more years of contributions.

Unemployment benefits, the contributory unemployment benefit, are the largest of all the benefits paid by the SEPE (State Public Employment Service) and, therefore, require more requirements from its recipients than subsidies. This also affects the duration of the benefit, which is longer the longer the period of contributions.
The agency has explained how it works on its profile on the social network X (formerly Twitter): the unemployment benefit period "is calculated taking into account the time of employment contributed to unemployment during the six years prior to the legal unemployment situation ."
This is what is stated in the General Social Security Law, which in its article 269 ( you can consult it at this link ) includes a table with the equivalences between contributions achieved and the unemployment benefit collection period allowed in each case.
- With between 360 and 539 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 120 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 540 and 719 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 180 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 720 and 899 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 240 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 900 and 1,079 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 300 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 1,080 and 1,259 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 360 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 1,260 and 1,439 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 420 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 1,440 and 1,619 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 480 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 1,620 and 1,799 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 540 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 1,800 and 1,979 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 600 days of unemployment benefits.
- With between 1,980 and 2,159 days of contributions, it is possible to collect 660 days of unemployment benefits.
- After 2,160 days of contributions, 720 days of unemployment benefits are paid, the maximum.
When calculating the number of days of unemployment benefits, the SEPE explains on its website , two aspects must be taken into account. First, in the case of people with reduced-hours contracts, " every day worked will be counted as a day of contributions, regardless of the length of the workday ."
Another different case is that of people with part-time jobs. In these situations, " the duration of the contract or activity will be taken into account ."
Amount of unemployment benefits according to the number of months of contributionsIt's important to remember that the amount of unemployment benefits depends on the duration of this contributory benefit. Thus, as the period of collection increases, the amount the beneficiary receives decreases:
- During the first 180 days, the unemployment benefit is 70% of the worker's statutory base .
- From day 181, the amount drops to 60% of the worker's regulatory base .
The SEPE (Spanish Social Security Employment Service) reminds workers that the regulatory base for unemployment benefits is the average of the Social Security contribution bases for occupational contingencies over the last 180 days of contributions, without taking into account overtime hours.
