Causes
During 2025, the main causes of inadmissibility included lack of required documentation for entry into Colombian territory (786 cases ), failure to present a visa when required (498), providing false information to the authorities (376), reasons of sovereignty or risk to the security of the State or citizen coexistence (322), and lack of an exit ticket (164). In terms of expulsions, Venezuelan citizens lead the list with 125 cases, followed by the Dominican Republic with 41, Ecuador with 12, Bolivia with 7, the United States with 7, Iran with 4, Mexico with 4, Spain with 3, and 24 other cases of various nationalities.

The measures were implemented at the country's main immigration checkpoints, including El Dorado Airport in Bogotá, José María Córdova Airport in Rionegro, Rafael Núñez Airport in Cartagena, and Alfonso Bonilla Aragón Airport in Cali. They were also implemented at land border crossings such as Rumichaca in Ipiales, La Unidad (Atanasio Girardot Bridge) in Cúcuta, Simón Bolívar in Norte de Santander, Puente Páez in Arauca, and Paraguachón in La Guajira, among others.
Prevention against potential sex offenders
On the other hand, as a result of international cooperation, so far this year nearly 50 foreign citizens have been denied entry, most of them Americans, as well as two Nigerians, one Briton, one Dominican, one Venezuelan, one Salvadoran, one Mexican and one Canadian who had active notifications on Angel Watch, a tool that allows the identification and monitoring of people with a history of sexual offenses against children and adolescents.

As part of these actions, five U.S. citizens were denied entry on Tuesday, November 4, at the José María Córdova International Airport in Rionegro, Antioquia. This followed various checks carried out by Colombian immigration officials that their entry or stay in the country posed a high risk to public safety and order due to their potential status as sex offenders. The citizens were deported the same day.
“Migración Colombia reiterates its commitment to the country’s security and the protection of children. The inadmissibility of these 46 sex offenders is the result of effective international cooperation and the rigorous work of our officers,” stated Gloria Esperanza Arriero López, Director General of Migración Colombia.
