Poverty reduction in Mexico: Sheinbaum celebrates the success of the 4T model

In an announcement marking a social milestone, President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that poverty in Mexico has experienced a significant reduction in recent years. During the People's Morning Conference from the National Palace, the president described the result as "an achievement of the fourth transformation."
"This poverty reduction is a feat of the Fourth Transformation because it reduced poverty and also inequality," Sheinbaum emphasized.
The president explained that the reduction in poverty is primarily due to economic and social measures implemented during her administration. Among the key factors, she mentioned:
- Historic increase in the minimum wage
- Social welfare programs aimed at vulnerable groups
- An approach focused on Mexican humanism
"What's the reason for this reduction? The increase in the minimum wage, the welfare programs. We should be very proud as Mexicans," Sheinbaum said.
The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) published the results of the 2024 Multidimensional Poverty Survey on Wednesday, August 13, revealing historic figures:
- Total poverty population: 38.5 million (reduction of 46.8 million in 2022)
- Percentage decrease: 17.7%, equivalent to 8.3 million people
- Moderate poverty: 31.5 million
- Extreme poverty: 7 million
- Reduction in the percentage of the population living in multidimensional poverty: 6.8 points
These data reflect unprecedented progress in the fight against poverty in Mexico.
Sheinbaum emphasized that these achievements are the result of a humanistic project, where public policies focus on the needs of citizens. For the president, this strategy demonstrates that the model implemented by the Fourth Transformation not only seeks numbers, but also a real impact on the quality of life of Mexicans.
"A humanist project is demonstrated in this, in the reduction of poverty, and we are confident that we will continue to make progress," he concluded.
