The Foreign Ministry asked the ambassador to Ghana to resign over allegations of domestic violence

On Friday, February 21, the Foreign Ministry headed by Laura Sarabia asked Daniel Garcés Carabalí, Colombian ambassador to Ghana, to resign after a complaint of alleged domestic violence against him became known.
The Colombian diplomat had been appointed in May 2023. However, he will leave office due to the complaint filed by his ex-partner.

In addition to the action taken by the Foreign Ministry, the Attorney General's Office announced last Tuesday that through its First Delegate Attorney General for Administrative Oversight, it decided to take disciplinary measures and order a series of tests to clarify the facts.
The case is related to the fact that Garcés Carabalí allegedly failed to fulfill his family obligations by keeping his children in the African country despite having agreed with his former partner to return them to Colombia at the end of January.
In addition, the woman accused the Colombian diplomat of acts of violence that he allegedly committed against her, which will have to be clarified by the Attorney General's Office, a criminal authority where a report to this effect was received.

In this regard, the control body explained through a statement that the delegate in charge of the case, "in attention to the respect for the rights of women recognized in our Constitution, as well as the obligation to eradicate discrimination against them in the face of acts of violence and in application of the differential approach with a gender perspective, recognized the ex-partner of the investigated as a victim within the disciplinary process."
At the opening of the investigation, the Attorney General's Office recalled that it is subscribed to special protocols to eradicate gender-based violence.
He also recalled that this disciplinary measure - which could lead to a sanction against the ambassador in Ghana - will allow details of the case to be taken, such as the time, manner and place in which the violent acts were committed.
