The PLD rejects the elimination of the IAD and warns that it will affect producers.

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) reiterated this Friday its rejection of decree 115-25 issued by President Luis Abinader , which seeks to eliminate the Dominican Agrarian Institute ( IAD ).

In a statement, the PLD's Secretariat of Agricultural Affairs highlighted the "harm" this measure will cause to hundreds of Dominican families and producers.

Geovanny Arias , the PLD's Undersecretary of Agricultural Affairs , stated that "the president must better orient himself and request accurate reports from his officials to prevent his government's image from further deteriorating in the eyes of agricultural producers."

"I reiterate my call to President Abinader to reconsider, or in clearer terms, to reverse this action, which will seriously affect hundreds and hundreds of farmers who still do not have definitive property titles ," the PLD leader emphasized.

Arias explained the "national uncertainty experienced in rural communities after visiting the town of Pontón, in La Vega, where he met with rice producers such as Ramón Luis, José Sandoval, Melanio Sánchez, and Pedro Flete, who expressed concern about the possible disappearance of the organization that protects their interests."

He also emphasized that the IAD is the essential link for thousands of farmers to obtain definitive titles to their plots, and warned that eliminating this institution "would be a devastating blow to more than 3,000 employees and hundreds of farming families who would be left destitute."

He asserted that Abinader , during his nearly five years in power, has not had a favorable attitude toward the agricultural sector, as evidenced by the massive layoffs of professionals in the area.

"Eliminating the IAD would be putting a lid on the bottle and forever cementing it as an enemy of agrarian reform and Dominican farmers ," he said.

Arias urged officials close to the president to inform him "clearly and truthfully about the consequences of this measure," emphasizing that the IAD should be strengthened rather than eliminated, as it has played a vital role in national agricultural production.
