The president hopes Pope Leo XIV will visit the Dominican Republic.

President Luis Abinader expressed hope this Friday over the election of the new pope , Leo XIV , and expressed his desire for him to visit the Dominican Republic at some point.
The president said that this news fills him with joy , considering that the pontiff knows the country.
"We are filled with joy and hope for this new pope , who has even visited the Dominican Republic, and we hope he will visit our country," he said.
MessageAfter the news broke that the Catholic Church had a new supreme authority following the death of Pope Francis, Abinader extended his prayers for the success of the pontificate of Leo XIV .
"We extend our prayers for your pastoral mission and your leadership in favor of global harmony and solidarity," the head of state shared on social media.
For her part, the first lady , Raquel Arbaje , stated that with the election of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the new pope , hope is renewed in a Church guided by faith, love and compassion.
