Beaune. “It’s been the same type of business for over 250 years”: at Muratier, six generations of hardware dealers

Dominique represents the fifth generation of hardware merchants in the Muratier family. His great-great-grandfather, Pierre Muratier, took over the business on Rue Carnot in Beaune in 1862.
In a small office at the back of the store, he looks back on the history of this place, which he knows like the back of his hand: "It's been the same type of business for over 250 years. Even before the Revolution, it was a hardware store."
On the thick stones dating from the 15th century, the portraits of the former managers stand proudly: the first Muratier, owner of the hardware store, Pierre, then his son Jules, followed by his grandson, another Pierre.
