Federer moves his Basel group to a tax haven

Roger Federer, seen here at the recent Wimbledon tournament in England, is also an active patron in Switzerland.
Tennis legend Roger Federer is turning his back on his home region of Basel. He has relocated the headquarters of his Tenro AG group of companies from Bottmingen (BL) to Wollerau (SZ), the newspapers of the "CH Media" group announced on Tuesday. The online business register Zefix shows that the move took place in mid-July.
The reasons for this move seem obvious: tax-wise, Wollerau is significantly more attractive than Bottmingen. The corporate income tax there is 11.76%, and the capital gains tax is just 0.01%. In Bottmingen, these rates are much higher: they stand at 15.87% and 0.16%, according to a comparison by the Nexova trust company. As a reminder, the Bloomberg news agency recently estimated Federer's fortune at one billion francs.
Roger Federer's entrepreneurial career—who remains very discreet as a boss—began in 2003 with the founding of Hippo GmbH, which was primarily responsible for organizing and managing his tournaments. The champion then founded Tenro AG in 2007, which later incorporated Hippo GmbH. Today, his group represents a network of spin-off companies. Federer, for example, organizes the Laver Cup exhibition tournament with Tenro Event. Tenro Investments, for example, consolidates his various investments, particularly in footwear and clothing. The valuable rights to the brand are held by the original company.
Finally, it should be noted that the "Roger Federer Foundation" has remained in Bottmingen. It has a fortune of 21 million francs.
