Barnier, Bertrand, Lisnard, Wauquiez… At LR, there is no question of giving way to Retailleau with a view to 2027

Although the Minister of the Interior was elected president of LR by a landslide, the aspiring candidates in his party for 2027 have not given up and are already jostling for position.
By Quentin LaurentIt didn't take long after Bruno Retailleau 's election as leader of the Republicans to see the ambitions that fill the corridors of the right resurface. The Minister of the Interior may have crushed his match against Laurent Wauquiez (74%) at the end of May, becoming the undisputed leader of his camp, but a handful of them are lying in wait, determined to deny their leader the prized status of the party's natural candidate for 2027.
The LR president of the Hauts-de-France region, Xavier Bertrand, took advantage of his traditional summer visit to the Isle of Beauty to say it loud and clear. "By choosing the LR president, we absolutely did not designate the party's candidate for the presidency of the Republic," the Picard told Corse-Matin on August 7. He also reiterated that he still had the Élysée Palace in his sights, despite the snub in the 2021 LR primary, where he finished fourth.
