BFMTV INFO. US strikes in Iran: Emmanuel Macron will hold a Defense and Security Council meeting this Sunday evening
The United States attacked three of Iran's nuclear sites on Sunday, June 22, with Donald Trump claiming that the country's enrichment capabilities were now "completely destroyed."

Emmanuel Macron will hold a new National Defense and Security Council meeting dedicated to the situation in the Near and Middle East this Sunday, June 22, at 7:30 p.m., BFMTV learned from the Élysée Palace.

The head of state, who spoke this Sunday with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and the Sultan of Oman, "intends to continue his contacts with his European partners and the leaders of the region in the coming hours."

France "is doing everything possible to accelerate the departure of our nationals who wish to do so from Iran and Israel," the president also assured.

In a message from its foreign minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, on X, France expressed its concern following the American strikes against Iran's nuclear sites, urging "the parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation likely to lead to an extension of the conflict."

Stating that it "neither participated in these strikes nor in their planning", France said it was "convinced that a lasting solution to this issue requires a negotiated solution within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty".

The United States bombed three key nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday, joining the offensive launched by Israel on June 13.

Iran launched 40 missiles at Israel a few hours later, accusing the United States of "exploding" the chances of a diplomatic settlement of the nuclear issue.
