Moselle. Rumor of the closure of the Colruyt supermarket in Bouzonville: elected officials reassure

Moselle. Rumor of the closure of the Colruyt supermarket in Bouzonville: elected officials reassure

Last April, the Belgian group Colruyt announced its intention to sell its 101 supermarkets located in France. In Bouzonville, with the Intermarché having just closed its doors, the fear of a repeat with the Colruyt on Rue de Metz, at the entrance to Vaudreching, is very real. Elected officials are reassuring.

"No, the store will not close." Armel Chabane is categorical. The mayor of Bouzonville and president of the CCB3F confirmed this again this Friday morning. The supermarket, located on Rue de Metz at the entrance to Vaudreching, is one of the 101 French stores that the Belgian group Colruyt intends to sell. So much so that rumors of closure have spread like wildfire across the region. Bad timing, as the Bouzonville Intermarché has just closed its doors , losing 24 jobs in the process and depriving the Bouzonville resident of a local business. Faced with growing public concern about the future of the Belgian brand "which is now the only fuel point in the area," the community has contacted Colruyt management.

"The discussion we had with management was constructive and reassuring. The Vaudreching site is showing more than satisfactory results and no decision to close has been made, quite the contrary. The site has a solid foothold and several options are on the table regarding the future of this business," said Christian Clément, mayor of Vaudreching, and Armel Chabane in a joint statement. They also said they were "very confident and serene about the future of this store, which will remain in the area."

In fact, Colruyt's French subsidiary is expected to be sold to competitors. Coopérative U, Intermarché, Carrefour, and even E.Leclerc have already submitted takeover offers.

"Maintaining activity on the site and preserving jobs are a priority for us," Armel Chabane said. "This good news rewards the efforts and commitment of the two municipalities and the Bouzonvillois Trois Frontières community of municipalities in terms of economic development."
