Regulation of the establishment of practitioners, a new step towards reducing medical deserts

Will doctors soon be forced to prioritize setting up in areas with a shortage of healthcare professionals? The bill that seeks to regulate their establishment, put forward by Socialist Party MP Guillaume Garot, was adopted at first reading in the Assembly on Wednesday, May 7. This is a first step, therefore, in the fight against medical deserts .
But the text, which received 99 votes for and 9 against, must still be examined by the Senate in the fall, where it risks encountering unfavorable opinions from the government and the senatorial right. The latter has submitted a competing proposal to which the executive has been trying to graft its elements for the past week.
Led by Philippe Mouiller (LR), it is particularly in favor of making the installation of general practitioners part-time in under-resourced areas conditional and will be debated next week. In the meantime, a victory is a victory: an "important step" to "stop the worsening of inequalities," Guillaume Garot welcomed.
