Saint-Tropez issues municipal decree to ban heavy goods vehicles from the city until October 4

What if the start of the school year brought its share of good resolutions? After a summer spent studying different possibilities, the town hall of Saint-Tropez is going to propose a new traffic system. An experimental project, regulated by a municipal decree, which will come into effect from Tuesday until October 4, from noon to 7 a.m.
"The circulation of vehicles with a maximum authorized laden weight of more than 19 tonnes (PTAC) will be strictly prohibited in the direction of the town center," the document states.
More specifically, all the main roads leading to the heart of the village will be subject to this new measure: " It will take effect from the Bouillabaisse roundabout, the Sainte-Anne and Carles roads, the Bastidettes and Tamaris paths" . Only the Route des Plages will not be affected by the tonnage limitation . For the City, this restriction will help to smooth traffic flow and guarantee better safety for users, pedestrians and cyclists.
Relieve congestion on Avenue Pelletier
The second issue addressed by this decree is the regulation of trucks on Avenue Pelletier . This narrow section regularly becomes congested when two construction vehicles cross paths. In order to eliminate these head-to-heads, which are annoying for other motorists, this road " will be closed to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of more than 3.5 tonnes, in the direction from Couvent to Route de la Belle Isnarde" .
Drivers will still be able to use Avenues Foch and de la Résistance to avoid blockages and intersections.
Faced with these two tonnage limitations, a letter was sent to traders, restaurateurs and construction sites " to anticipate supplies and inform suppliers of this temporary restriction" . "For large tonnage deliveries, we recommend that you plan them outside the aforementioned periods or use suitable vehicles" , suggests the municipality.
"Gauge the best means"
These changes are part of the road safety improvement program . Initial actions have already been taken in the run-up to the season to avoid traffic paralysis, particularly on market days .
Municipal police officers were deployed throughout the summer at the top of Paul-Roussel and Grangeon avenues to redirect drivers who wanted to enter the Place des Lices .
At Pelletier , two give-way signs have been installed at the exit of the Impasse des Lorettes to facilitate the entry of vehicles leaving the Capucins housing estates . But even with the addition of these signs, the passage remains difficult to access.
"These tests allow us to gauge the best ways to deal with traffic for the coming summer seasons," confides the general director of services, Benoît Ravix .
*The traffic ban will take effect on these roads, on the side of their entrance on Route des Plages.
