Status of Corsica: the initial bill maintained despite the reluctance of the Council of State

The final Council of Ministers meeting before the holidays features a sensitive issue: Corsica's constitutional reform. Promised by Emmanuel Macron in 2022, the bill aims to enshrine the island's special status in the Constitution. Presented by François Rebsamen after its adoption by the Corsican Assembly, it provides for "autonomy within the Republic" and the recognition of a "Corsican community" with a "unique connection to its land." Despite the Council of State's unfavorable opinion, the government is maintaining this bill, fueling the anger of nationalists.
