Authorities say they fear "clashes." The Paris police headquarters announced Monday evening to Libération that Prefect Laurent Nuñez has decided to ban the neo-fascist "C9M" parade, scheduled for Saturday, May 10, in the capital's 6th arrondissement. This annual demonstration by the movement has in recent years turned into a show of force by radical activists, with previous editions causing scandals . Last year, nearly a thousand thugs took to the streets at the organizers' call. The police headquarters also wants to ban the counter-demonstration planned by the left. At this stage, only "the adversarial procedure to ban" the two parades has been initiated.
