The new fake news from the Lyon right about the "firefighters stuck" on Rue de la République

In a video shared on his social media, Pierre Oliver, mayor of Lyon's 2nd arrondissement, showed fire engines "blocked by the new benches" installed on Rue de la République. In reality, this was not the case, as it was an exercise, designed precisely to test how emergency services could work around these new developments.
These are benches, installed barely a week ago , which are already creating controversy. And which carry with them fantasies and political attacks. This Wednesday, July 30, Pierre Oliver, mayor of the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon, and candidate for the central mayoralty in 2026, posted a video on his social networks in which we can see two fire engines stopped near the new benches on rue de la République in Lyon. The LR mayor captioned his video with a sentence in the form of an attack on the environmentalists at the city hall and the metropolis of Lyon: " Firefighters blocked by the new benches: when the development forgets the essential ."
Yes, but here's the thing: these firefighters, presented by Pierre Oliver as being " in difficulty " because of these new developments, are in reality not at all. " This is a classic and necessary exercise for obvious safety reasons, carried out by the SDMIS as on other similar projects in public spaces, " explains the Lyon Metropolis. An exercise to allow emergency services to see how they can work in this sector with the presence of this new street furniture.

" The Lyon Metropolis has partnered and is working with the SDMIS services throughout the Rue de la République project, and at each new stage. This development has been the subject of several meetings with the security services, including the firefighters, " he reminded the community services, while specifying that these concrete benches are " easily movable " precisely to respond to " the recommendations and readjustments requested by the emergency services ."
A new fake news story, shared by the Lyon right, just a few days after that of Jean-Michel Aulas concerning the supposed absence of a call for tenders for the work on Place Bellecour . The latter, never stingy with an opportunity to tackle the Greens in Lyon, even plunged this Wednesday into this new controversy created from scratch by Pierre Oliver, by responding to his video on the X network: " The situation described also on the insecurity, the filth of the city, the lack of consultation leads to this worrying heresy, unbearable for the Lyonnaises, the Lyonnais who remained in Lyon and who have never before known such a denial of democracy! " explained the former boss of OL, future candidate for mayor of Lyon. A democracy which undoubtedly deserves better than these pseudo controversies created from scratch around false information.
