France has expressed concern following the US strikes against Iran's nuclear sites , urging "the parties to exercise restraint to avoid any escalation likely to lead to an extension of the conflict" , according to a message from the head of French diplomacy, Jean-Noël Barrot, posted Sunday, June 22 on X.

Stating that it "neither participated in these strikes nor in their planning" , France said it was "convinced that a lasting solution to this issue requires a negotiated solution within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty" .

"The President of the Republic met this morning with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and the Sultan of Oman to take stock of the situation in the Middle East following the latest strikes in Iran," the Elysée Palace announced. Emmanuel Macron will hold a national defense and security council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Elysée Palace, dedicated to the situation in the Near and Middle East, the presidency announced.
