Val-d'Oise Prefect Files Complaint Against LFI MP Aurélien Taché After His Comments About the Police

The MP wrote on his X account "The police are killing everywhere," a "communication" deemed "defamatory and insulting" by the prefect on X. MP Thomas Portes and the prefect of Paris, Laurent Nuñez, joined the exchanges on the social network.

The Val-d'Oise prefect announced on Tuesday, August 19, that he had filed a complaint against LFI MP Aurélien Taché "because of his communication on X, defamatory and insulting to the Val-d'Oise police officers." Philippe Court also called on the Insoumis "to withdraw this publication, which is dishonoring for an elected official from Val-d'Oise" and indicated that he would "fully support the police and gendarmes in the exercise of their duties."
On Monday, the LFI MP for Cergy-Pontoise wrote on X: "The police are killing everywhere. In Val-d'Oise, where I was elected, as in Deux-Sèvres, where I grew up." He added: "Thoughts for Gabriel and his family, and bravo to those fighting for his memory." Last May, Gabriel, 33, was fatally injured by a police officer's gunfire during an intervention for "nighttime disturbance" in Deux-Sèvres. His mother subsequently filed a complaint.
On Tuesday evening, Thomas Portes posted on his X account that he fully supported his colleague Aurélien Taché, "targeted by the prefect of the 95th arrondissement who is acting as a gunman." The rebellious MP added: "No intimidation or threats will make us give in to the fight we are waging alongside the families of victims of police violence," before listing several names, including Nahel and Adama Traoré. A list "that recalls a reality: in France, the police kill."
This message from Thomas Portes then prompted a reaction from Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez, who for his part gave his "total" support to Philippe Court. "No, Mr. Deputy, the police do not kill," wrote Laurent Nuñez.
