War in Ukraine: Emmanuel Macron calls for a "quadrilateral" meeting including Europe

A meeting between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Volodymyr Zelensky, and European leaders? This is the idea put forward by Emmanuel Macron on Monday, August 18. From the White House, alongside Donald Trump and other European leaders, including the leader of Ukraine, the French president recalled that Europe "has been working hard for many years to establish a robust and lasting peace."
Emmanuel Macron believes that a trilateral meeting between Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Volodymyr Zelensky, which has been regularly discussed in recent days, is "important" and "the only solution to find a way out of this war."
But the head of state goes further, believing that "it will surely be necessary to form a quadrilateral" with the Europeans.
"Because when we talk about security guarantees, the issue is that of the European continent as a whole," the tenant of the Élysée Palace argued on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump assured that a "trilateral" meeting with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky would take place "if all goes well." "And there will be a good chance of ending the war when we do," the US president continued.
"We will find a lasting peace," the American president assured, specifying that Washington "will be involved" in Ukraine's future security.
The White House president has repeatedly raised the possibility of a meeting involving the Ukrainian and Russian presidents in recent days. Before the summit in Alaska , where he met with Vladimir Putin, Donald Trump had called for such a meeting to take place "quickly."
