The trial for the alleged bankruptcy of the companies Consorzio Sigi, Infrastrutture e Servizi, Infotec, and Segnaletica e Servizi, all declared bankrupt in July 2012, is headed to the dock. Thirteen years after the bankruptcies and arrest, and following their acquittal (due to the statute of limitations) on charges of defrauding the former Province of Bari and banks, the Bari Prosecutor's Office has requested a new trial for the two entrepreneurs, aged 58 and 61, and for Francesca Boffoli, 62, the latter's wife. The preliminary hearing for the indictment is scheduled for November 10th.
According to the prosecution, through invoices for non-existent transactions issued to the former Province, they obtained bank credit of €28.9 million, money then used "to cover personal expenses not strictly related to their business activity" and to purchase luxury properties. Prosecutor Roberto Rossi charges the two brothers, on various counts and according to their respective responsibilities, with 17 counts of aggravated fraudulent bankruptcy (including fraudulent documentation) relating to the four companies. Erasmo and his wife are also accused of a further bankruptcy case involving Ingep SpA, consisting of having misappropriated €800,000 through the purchase of a bank policy, for which the woman is also charged with money laundering and self-laundering.
