Fedriga earns $18 million thanks to Cirque du Soleil show

With nearly 72,000 spectators, 'Alegría – In A New Light' was the most-watched live event ever in Friuli Venezia Giulia, with spectators arriving from 100 countries and nearly all Italian provinces. We recorded a particularly high turnout, especially from those regions directly connected to Trieste Airport. Tickets were sold as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Argentina, Kazakhstan, and Iceland, and 250 Cirque du Soleil fans traveled from the United States. This extraordinary success generated approximately €18 million in revenue for our region.
This was stated today by the governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga , during a press conference convened in the Region to take stock of the 40 performances of the Cirque du Soleil show “Alegría – In A New Light,” which ran in Trieste from June 13th to July 13th.
"This Administration has long been working to support the organization of major events capable of guaranteeing significant economic opportunities and enormous visibility for our region," Fedriga stated. "'Alegría – In A New Light' was a formidable show, but we cannot forget—to name just the most recent—the Jovanotti concert at Laghi di Fusine, the Robbie Williams show at the Rocco Stadium in Trieste, and the many initiatives related to Nova Gorica Gorizia, European Capital of Culture 2025."
In thanking Rossetti, the Municipality of Trieste, and all the other partners who made "Alegría – In A New Light" possible, the governor confirmed that the Region intends to continue supporting events of this caliber, which are important for the development and promotion of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
"The show," Fedriga added, "achieved results that perhaps exceeded our expectations. It is the result of intense work and the desire to confidently invest in an event of this magnitude. Thanks to a strong synergy between the institutions and private entities involved in this ambitious project, all organizational challenges were overcome, making the most of an iconic location for Trieste—the Old Port."
Part of the GO!2025&Friends program within Nova Gorica Gorizia European Capital of Culture 2025, “Alegría – In A New Light” also involved many young people, selected thanks to the Recruiting Day organized in May by the Region, who accumulated a total of 1,500 working days.
